Waf Jeremie is built on a garbage dump among the sea and a little smelly, dark river. This is a high risk area for desease .After a rainy day floods invade shacks and streets of Wharf Jeremie. The situation gets very unhealthy. After hurricane Tomas great part of it was flooded and Wharf Jeremie is one of the first Port au Prince areas where cholera appeared. Wharf Jeremie is one of the poorest districts of Port au Prince, a shantytown where about 150.000 people live in miserable conditions and where gangs, drug and arms dealers are free to icrease their business. This is one of the areas forbidden by UN because of its dangerousness. No foreign organization started projects in here with the exception of Sister Marcella, a franciscan nun, graduated in Medicine and nurse. She lives in Wharf Jeremie since 5 years carring on with many projects to help Wharf Jeremie people. Thanks to donations she built a new clinic, the old one was destroyed by the earthquake, 122 brick houses, a school and a canteen which provides over 500 meals a day for children.
