WAF JEREMIE

14/ 23

Sister Marcella and her medical staff give James, 27, first aid in Saint Francis clinic. They are trying to insert a needle into a vein for a phleboclysis, but dehydration makes it very difficult. James lies on the floor on a stretcher, he is affected by cholera symptoms and is very weak. He will die in less than an hour. Waf Jeremie is one of the poorest districts of Port au Prince, a shantytown where about 150.000 people live in miserable conditions and where gangs, drug and arms dealers are free to increase their business. This is one of the areas forbidden by UN because of its dangerousness. Waf Jeremie is built on a garbage dump among the sea and a little smelly, dark river. This is a high risk area for deseases. After hurricane Tomas great part of it was flooded and Waf Jeremie is one of the first Port au Prince areas where cholera appeared.
